Disease Check – Growneria

Time is passing by faster than we could have ever imagined. Change is a part that we live with and the more we ignore it, harder it is to recognize the obvious. It takes a while but there is a moment of clarity when you know you are right there. I don’t think you can clearly define some changes, but to those who keep their eyes wide shut to reality and proclaim to be I-am-young-at-heart types.. I can show some clear symptoms that they also might be suffering from the \”Growneria\”.

Symptoms

  • 6:00 AM is when you get up, not when you go to bed
  • You get to listen to your favorite music mostly when you are driving.
  • You check weather often.
  • You go from 130 days of vacation time to 14.
  • Jeans and a sweater no longer qualify as \”dressed up.\”
  • Older relatives feel comfortable telling adult jokes around you.
  • You don\’t know what time coffee shop closes anymore.
  • Your car insurance goes down and your payments go up.
  • Realized that sleeping on the couch can make your back hurt.
  • You no longer take naps from noon to 6 PM.
  • Eating a pizza 3 AM is a bad bad idea.. instead you wait till morning to have 2% milk and Oatmeal cereals
  • You actually eat breakfast food at breakfast time.
  • \”Yeah, I can drive faster than that\” replaces, \”Geez, that’s crazy, I\’m never going to ride with you again”.
  • 90% of the time you spend in front of a computer is for real work.
  • Your cell phone day time minutes are actually within the limits and that doesn’t bother you.
  • When you call your friend you no longer talk about the hot chick you saw in the last movie.. instead you tell him about the best investment plan
  • Weekends are to relax
  • You try justifying laughing on lame jokes PJ’s
  • You prefer to call up your friend before crashing at his place at 6pm
  • Movie review are must before going for a movie
  • You envy kids coz they seem to be outsmarting you in new technology
  • Kids address you as Uncle instead of Bhaiya !!!
  • Your key-chains have kroger / cvs / walgreen membership cards

I can’t embarrass myself more than this. Yes, all of those above applies to me. I am sure you might agree with me for most of those if not all.

On a different note, I completely enjoyed the track “Mera Jahan” form TZP (Taare Zameen Par). It has its own unique appeal specially with the treatment of music and fully justified vocals from Adnan Sami. Crisp sharp strumming and confident use of drums with the aalap similar to Kailash Kher’s “Teri Diwaani”.

And this phraze from the lyrics have left mark and haunts my soul

Udne Ko Sau Pankh Diye Hai
Chadme Ko Khula Aasmaan

Mudne Ko Hai Karwat Karwat
Aur Badhne Ko Mera Jahan

Ok.. back to the point, I have the symptoms to diagnose “Grown-eria” but any treatments ? …

Leaving Home

1163626897-sc-155

After that little blog of mine \”Lost in Transition\”, many of you have compelled me to re-think over the choice of songs I am into. Its a wildly driven paradox ; when I am with my folks I never have  had played/appreciated these so-called-lounge genre\’. And probably thats the reason you guys couldnt comply with the sudden but subtle change. lol… A theory again ! But thanks for all your comments.

I am right now plugged into (its not best as Khamaj but it certainly appeals me)
Song: Leaving Home
Album: Kandisa
Band:– Indian Oceans –
(wiki)

Its a hymn and has been performed by the Indian Ocean (Black Friday fame). Kandisa was a great album and had more good music especially with their \”Kandisa\” and \”Ma Reva\”. There is something about Indian Ocean’s music that touches a chord somewhere within. Its a mix of rock and classical, drums and sitar, tabla and guitar, or Sanskrit (?assumed) all take equal preference. But I must admit that Kandisa is among those few albums that doesnt seem to be forced or pretentious. There is this.. great amount of soul enriching quality to it.. complete off-track to the present music scenario in India.

During the college days me and my friends played \”Kandisa\” almost 50 times a day at hostel room (inspired by Annual Function\’s Fashion show  ), but that wasn\’t strange – we had only few cassettes left with us (all other were lost/donated/destroyed.. ). Call it a compulsion but whatever that was, it was fun to listen to same song no-matter-what-time of day and night and bug your friends by singing (?yelling) them loud.. ! Fun were those times, but probably I never noticed this song ;  infact I never had to. I could figure out the meanings of lyrics Ma Reva and Kandisa so needless to say, this \”leaving home\” went overshadowed. But now when I re-think this one is far better song then the other tracks of Kandisa.

For those who dont (*want to*) understand Hindi, they might find this one easier and soothing. Its just a well coordinated fusion of strings and percussions (my fav). Surprizingly, after a little bit of research on this song I found this song description –

\”The concept dwells on the Pastoral Myth revisited. There is no golden past, yet we seek it ultimately. We want to leave home, and then, one day, we wish to return. But we can never go back to the same. Because, home has changed, and in many ways, so have we.\”

So true and wonderful, isnt it ?

Well, this would probably be my last blog on songs.. I need to get back on controversies ASAP ! (My reputation: My \”friend\” (?name protected) forwarded me a nice song and asked me to write a blog on it !! ha ha.. as if I earn my bread from songs )

Percussion lovers – Digg it ! (Recommend you to use your \’better quality\’ headphones, set your WMP to – \”techno\” and turn ON your SRS WOW and adjust the slider for crisp sharp tabla beats )

[Note: I had edited the mp3 files and cut some vocal parts of song to sound better )

Lost in Transition

1157480267-hr-150

This time its nothing to do with India/politics nor has anything spiced up pinch about movies. Its just a Damn Sexy song!! It all started during this long weekend while I had been driving more than 700 miles and this one came as my best companion – a song !!

I never have had a feeling before so strange, but this one had stumped me to core. It is something ridiculously wierd \’coz  I really dont know how to express as its completely insane. Its like, you get this complete song haunting you anytime of the day (and night too to be precise) and this wont go untill you plug yourself to it for like god-zillions times all in a loop  and enjoy repeating its everlasting effect. And finally, you end up craving to hear it more and more. At a point I wanted this song to play simultaneously all around me in like.. 5-10 different music players all at same time !  DAMN this feeling !

Its Fuzon Khamaj
Mora Saiyan moh se bole na

Sawan Beeton jaye teharwa
Man Mera Khabraye
Aiso Gaye Pardes Piya tum  (2)
Chain hume nahi aye (2)
Mora saiyan Mo se bole na (2)
Mai laakh Jatan kar haaari ,
Laakh jatan kar haar rahiiii
Mora sayian Mo se bole na …..

It has this amazing guitar riffs and bends that plays so smoothly along with rythmic chord progression added  with a little brass \’matka\’ kind of beats giving it a kind of gloomy folk tone. And ofcourse the classical sufi touch in the voice with raaga – khamaj (?assumed)  makes the whole song …soo.. soo PERFECT !!  Its lovely to listen to this song in the evening, with darkening skies,  lil rain showers and a cup of hot coffee in ur hand or may be it would be great during winter snows or may be fall ! Damnn , I think its lovely for all time of the seasons ! I could just play on and on and on, probably because although it is so monotonous  – you just wouldn’t feel that its becoming repetitive.

I remember when I first heard this song , it was as if the sole solace for my worries back then ! You know  those times when you just don’t mind being stupid and letting the song take over you, if it takes somethings off your head!

I recommend to listen to it while you are on a long drive, or on a lonely night while you are waiting for things to lit up fresh, or when you have an anger led helplessness feel about being unable to do something. But the best is to close your eyes and let the song take you over COMPLETELY !!

Sufi lovers – just Listen to it¦ I think you’ll know  what I am upto.
